Tarin’s defamation case: Court orders Shahbaz Sharif to file reply

ISLAMABAD: A local court on Friday issued notice to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on a damages suit filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General Jahangir Tarin against him.

An Islamabad court heard the defamation suit filed by Jahangir Tarin against Shahbaz Sharif for what he said leveling baseless allegations against him which damaged his reputation. He had urged the court to order Shahbaz Sharif to pay Rs30 billion in damages to him.

On Friday, during the hearing of the case, Tarin’s counsel Salman Bashir said that Shahbaz Sharif leveled baseless allegations against his client.

He further said that under Section-8, he had served notice on the Chief Minister, asking him to tender unconditional apology over the allegations, but he did not pay nay heed.

He pleaded the court that as the baseless allegations had damaged the reputation and integrity of his client, Shahbaz Sharif be ordered to pay Rs30 billion in damages to him.

The court while issuing notice to Shahbaz Sharif directed him to submit reply by Nov 12, 2016.
