ISLAMABAD: The standing committee of National Assembly (NA) on Information and Broadcasting on Wednesday condemned the arrest and torture on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
Firdous Ashiq Awan advised PPP workers to not take the law into their hands, adding that the detained workers have been released.
“If any member of the parliament (MNA) attacks Army he usually challenges the writ of the state,” she added.
She said that according to the Inspector General of Islamabad (IG) police total of 37 PPP workers were taken into custody. She, however, rejected the arrest of any parliamentarian in a result of the protest outside the Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
Rejecting the reports of restraining media she said a strong and independent media is important for a strong democracy.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Imran Khan for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdoush Ashiq Awan reacting over the tweet of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president has said that Maryam should have given the same comments over the model town carnage.
According to details, Firdous Ashiq Awan pointing out PML-N vice-president said that Maryam has forgotten the cruelty and bullets which targeted the innocent civilians of the model town.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has condemned the arrest of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supporters (Jiyalas) at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
Taking to Twitter, the PML-N leader taunted PTI-led government for ‘not bearing a small protest’.
She reiterated her party’s stance on PTI’s win in general elections of 2018, claiming that ‘thieves entered via the backdoor’.
She condemned the arrest of jiyalas and criticized the incumbent government for its performance since assuming the office.
