Three days not enough to compile final report of Sahiwal incident: JIT head

LAHORE: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ejaz Shah, on Tuesday said three days were not enough to conclude the joint probe into Sahiwal incident.

Ejaz Shah while talking to media persons said that it was a major incident, however, his team was given very less time to conclude the investigation. He said that the JIT members visited the incident’s site and recorded statements of eyewitnesses while initiation of probe. He said that the team has not reached any conclusion point.

Shah said that the probe team was making maximum efforts to compile probe report today. However, the Tuesday’s report could not be termed as finalised report, he added.

The police officer confirmed that six personnel of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) were currently being investigated under custody.

Earlier in the day, the JIT members visited the incident’s site and recorded statement of eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses told JIT that police officials had started firing at the vehicle, later they took out children and resorted to heavy firing again on the vehicle. They added that another elite forces’ vehicle arrived in and took dead bodies along with them afterward.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the firing had initiated by police official while neither resistance had been seen from the deceased persons’ car nor any ammunition and explosive material were recovered from it.
