TTP Confirms Death of APS Mastermind Umar Mansoor

Peshawar (October 18, 2017): The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Wednesday has confirmed the death of the mastermind of the  Army Public School attack as they also announced their successor.

Accoding to TTP Spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani,  Usman Mansoor Hafizullah will replace Umar  Mansoor was the faction’s commander in Darra Adam Khel and Peshawar.

Umar Mansoor, who had also claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on Bacha Khan University in 2016, was said to be the mastermind of 2014’s massacre at the Army Public School in Peshawar which left at least 144 people, mostly children, dead. He was killed in July last year.

Two senior security officials had  told media that Umar Mansoor, alias Khalifa Mansour, alias Umar Naray, had been killed, along with another militant leader, Qari Saifullah, in a US drone attack in the Bandar area of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province in July 2016.

According to foreign media, Mansoor got high school education in Islamabad and later studied in a madrassa. He spent some time working in Karachi as a labourer before joining the Taliban in 2007.

He was forced to take shelter in Afghanistan after the Army Public School massacre in Peshawar – the deadliest militant attack in Pakistan’s history. Mansoor had also claimed responsibility for the attack on Bacha Khan University in 2016.

Reports of his death had emerged in 2016 as well after US claimed that Mansoor was killed in an air strike in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on July 9.

On the whole, 31 people have died in three drone strikes near the Pak-Afghan border in Afghanistan over the last 24 hours.

On Tuesday, the US conducted a drone attack in the Khanachi area of Paktia, and killed five people and injured one.
