ISLAMABAD: A two-day meeting of senior officials of the member countries of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) started in Islamabad on Sunday to discuss the agenda of the ECO summit being held on Wednesday.
The meeting elected Foreign Secretary Azaz Chaudhry as chairman of the senior officials of ECO. Addressing the meeting, the newly-elected chairman Chaudhry said that the ECO summit would help achieve stability in the region.
He added that Pakistan wanted close relations with ECO member countries. Pak-China Economic Corridor project would prove to be a game changer in the region, he added.
Secretary General of ECO Jalil Ibrahim said that the successful holding of the meeting will help achieved the objective of the organization. He added that the summit will open new avenues of cooperation among member countries in trade, energy and communication.
It is to be mentioned here that officials’ meeting will be followed by Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Tuesday.
The theme of the summit is “Connectivity for Regional Prosperity.”
