UAE: Maradona appointed as Fujairah Football Club coach

UAE (May 9, 2017): Former Argentinian soccer star Diego Maradona has been appointed as coach of second division Al-Fujairah Football Club.

The former Argentina star, now 56, has been out of management since being sacked by Dubai’s Al-Wasl in 2012 but has now found a new role in the UAE second division.

Al-Fujairah Football Club Chairman Nasser Al-Yasser unveiled details of the one-year contract. The club’s management have yet to appoint a fitness coach and other members of the technical staff.

The Argentine, 56, was announced on Sunday as Fujairah’s new manager having signed a one-year deal with the First Division club. He was pictured holding aloft a Fujairah shirt, emblazoned on the back with his surname and his famous No 10. “I want to tell you that I’m the new coach of the Al-Fujairah SC, in the second division of the United Arab Emirates,” Maradona posted on his Facebook page. The club expect to formally present Maradona to the media at a press conference next week. The former Barcelona, Napoli and Boca Juniors forward last managed Al Wasl for 14 months, or 422 days, from May 2011.

Maradona won the 1986 World Cup with his country and reached the final four years later, and twice won Serie A with Napoli.

The management of Football club is pinning its hopes on Maradona to build a strong team and help Fujairah Club rejoin the first divisions.
