LONDON: Jeremy Hunt, United Kingdom’s State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, has said that the UK may release the seized Iranian oil if the country is given a guarantee that it will not be taken off to Syria.
The Iranian tanker was detained by British Royal Marines near Gibraltar on July 04.
According to the Royal Marines, it was suspected that the oil may be taken to Syria which violates the sanctions imposed onto Syria by the European Union (EU).
Speaking on the future of seized oil, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had told him that Iran wanted to resolve the issue and was not seeking to escalate tensions.
