UN Report Shows Spike In Deaths Of Afghan Civilians

New York: A new United Nations report has revealed that Afghan and U.S. forces killed more civilians in Afghanistan than other insurgents did in the first quarter of 2019.

According to the report, the number of civilians -mostly women and children – killed or injured by airstrikes in Afghanistan has risen a startling 39% during the ongoing year.

The UN report shows airstrikes, carried out by both US and Afghan aircraft, have killed 305 and injured 303 civilians so far this year. Of overall casualties, 17 per cent were at the hands of Afghan national security forces, 13 per cent were international military forces, two per cent were pro-government militias and two per cent were “multiple Pro-Government Forces,” said report.
