Unforgettable Songs Of The 1st Versatile Actress Sridevi

Web-Desk (February 26, 2018): Versatile actress and Padma Shri awardee Sridevi had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in the film industry.

She began acting at the age of 4 and set out on a journey that turned into a legacy. With eyes that could speak volumes, a smile that could light up an entire room, remarkable talent and unparalleled dance moves, Sridevi gave us some memorable movies with her knockout performances.

Her sudden demise on Sunday was a dark day in the industry as fans, friends and family grappled to deal with the void she left.

Her death may have been untimely, but she lives on in the hearts of millions and hails as the undisputed diva of Bollywood.

8. ‘Hawa Hawaii’

Sridevi was fondly known as the ‘Hawa Hawaii’ girl after the success of the song by the same name in her film ‘Mr. India’. With expressions that would make one gush and inimitable dance moves, Sridevi was an absolute delight on screen.

Her song ‘Hawa Hawaii’ was one of the most popular songs of all time thanks to the cult classic film that was the highest grossing film of 1987. Sung by the ever-so-melodious Kavita Krishnamurthi, the song is an evergreen song. Given the peppy beats of the track, it was recreated for Vidya Balan’s 2017 flick ‘Tumhari Sulu’. 

7: ‘Naino Mein Sapna’

Starring Sridevi and Jeetendra, ‘Naino mein Sapna’ is a foot tapping number that rocked the charts in the 1980s. Clad in fine ethnic clothes, dancing around earthen pots, the song was a rage back then.

Sung by the dynamic duo, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, the song is a peppy track that cherished the lovely onscreen camaraderie between the two superstars. The song is quintessentially 80s in its style.

Later, it was reimagined for the Tamannah Bhatia and Ajay Devgn starrer of the same name. 

6. Main Nagin Tu Sapera

Sridevi is that brilliant actress, who popularised the role of the shape-shifting snake in Bollywood movies. With her unmatched dance moves and unparalleled charm, she could pump life into any character.

Her Naagin dance complemented by Lata Mangeshkar’s soothing voice will forever be one vivid memory that’ll stay with us until the end of time. Harmesh Malhotra’s snake-woman fantasy ‘Nagina’ was a big hit in its time.

5. ‘Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Choodiyan’

The song ‘Mere haathon mein nau nau choodiyan’ from her blockbuster film ‘Chandni’ celebrates Sridevi’s sheer brilliance as a dancer. Not just Rishi Kapoor but the viewers too fell in love with her as they saw her art of breathing life into a timid dancer. She became an icon and an inspiration for all dance aspirants after this song came out. In no time, this song became a popular wedding number. Till date, it is played at sangeets and other ceremonies during the wedding season.

4. ‘Kaate Nahi kat te’

Clad in a turquoise saree, Sridevi channelled her inner diva in ‘Kaate Nahi kat te’ as she entices the audience. She shows her sultry side as she sizzles in this track where she reaffirms that there’s nothing quite sexier than a saree.

Romancing an invisible man, Sridevi crowned herself as the sensuous queen in movies. Her beauty and grace wouldn’t let you get your eyes off her. ‘Mr. India’ has often been featured in different lists of top Bollywood films.

3. ‘Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi hai’

Sridevi dazzled in a double role in ‘ChaalBaaz’. She essayed the role of twin sisters Anju and Manju who got separated at a tender age. Anju is the timid and innocent one who is ill-treated by her uncle while Manju is the tough one.

She was a rare heroine with an incredible sense of comic timing. It was a classic comedy with a great star cast, notably, Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher and Shakti Kapoor. ‘Na Jaane Kahan se aayi hai’ was a huge hit. Clad in a transparent raincoat, Sridevi enthralled the audience with her chirpy side.

Sung by Amit Kumar and Kavita Krishnamurthy, the song has a peppy feel to it.

2. ‘Chudiyaan Khanak Gayeein’

Sridevi is one actress, who always delivered on the promise of a ‘paisa vasool’ trip to the cinema. Not many could transmit the joy and technique of dancing like her.
In ‘Chudiyaan khanak gayeein’ from ‘Lamhe’, Sridevi is seen clad in a dual tone lehenga-choli, dancing amid the sand dunes of Rajasthan to folk beats. She brings a bounce and spontaneity to her graceful dance routine. 
The actress retains the lively side of her personality when she appears onscreen.
1. ‘Gustakh Dil’

Sridevi exited the film scene after her marriage to Boney Kapoor in 1996. She made her comeback with ‘English Vinglish’ which showed her further ripening as an artist. She shows her brand of poise and continues to enamour in the size-zero age.
The actress played the role of a taken-for-granted wife and mother of two in the film. Helmed by Gauri Shinde, the film sees the beautiful journey of a woman, who earns back her share of love and respect from her family members.
The film has too many lovely tracks. ‘Gustakh Dil’ is a soothing number that plays in the background when Sridevi regains her confidence after joining English speaking classes in the United Kingdom.
