Multan (June 19, 2017): The legal fraternity in the country frequently resort to boycott of courts’ proceeding and strikes to protest and press the authorities to accept their demands, but lawyers in Multan on Monday announced ‘strike’ for totally different cause: to celebrate the emphatic win of Pakistan in the final of ICC Champion Trophy over arch rival India.
President of District Bar Association Multan congratulated the nation over the impressive victory of the national team to claim the maiden champion trophy crown.
He added that the team had given the nation Eid gift even before Eid. He announced that to celebrate the victory lawyers would not appear in the courts.
However, the announcement of the bar president to ‘boycott’ courts proceeding to celebrate the victory did not go down well with the litigants.
The litigants, who have came to the Kutchery for pursuing their cases in the scorching heat in Ramzan, flayed the lawyers body’s decision to go on “strike”.
They said that the decision to stay away from court proceeding by the lawyers was beyond their comprehensions as nowhere in the world courts are boycotted in celebration.
