United Nations Day Being Observed Today

All the member countries celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations Charter which occurred on October 24, 1945.

Background

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries, including United States Of America, China, Great Britain & Soviet Union, committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.

In the beginning, member countries of UN were 51 which have now been increased to 193.

Subsidiaries of United Nations

There are six main organs of the United Nations—the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Trusteeship Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, and the Secretariat. The Court has its seat at The Hague, Netherlands.

United Nations Day 2018 marks the 73rd anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry into force.
