UNSC To Hold Emergency Meeting On Thursday On Syria

Web Desk(July 04, 2018): The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss the Syrian army’s Russia-backed offensive against rebel groups in Daraa province that has forced some 300,000 people to flee.

Sweden has requested the meeting along with Kuwait.The United Nations estimates that between 270,000 and 330,000 Syrians have fled since the ongoing bombings started in the southwestern province on 19th of last month.

Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nation Antonio Guterres called for halt to military operations in Syria.

In a statement the word body said all stakeholders must immediately stop attacks directed against medical and educational facilities and put in place security conditions for United Nations cross-border deliveries to resume without further delay.The Secretary-General also urged the international community to unite to put an end to this expanding conflict, which risks further de-stabilizing the region and worsening the deep humanitarian crisis in Syria and neighboring states.
