Web Desk(April 18, 2018) United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon has ‘reciprocal’ travel restrictions will be imposed on Pakistani diplomats in the United States (US).
Shannon said in his statement that, “Our diplomats are under travel restrictions. They can travel further [than 40 kilometres], but they have to notify the government of Pakistan. It’s very common in diplomacy”.
The senior US official also referred to travel restrictions placed on US diplomats in Pakistan which requires them to inform the government of movement beyond 40 kilometres of their station.“What’s important here is that we’ve had some very fruitful conversations with Pakistan about events inside of Afghanistan. It’s my hope that we’re going to be able to build off those in a way that helps this broader reconciliation process,” said the US diplomat when probed further.
It may be recalled that on April 7, American Embassy’s car Killed a youth in Capital Islamabad.
The US defense air attaché, who was driving the white Land Cruiser, hit the motorcyclists near Islamabad’s Daman-e-Koh vicinity.On April 8, Foreign Office summoned US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale and registered a strong protest against the killing of a Pakistani citizen by a US official in a road accident in Islamabad.
