Washington (June 27, 2017): United States Department of State on Monday declared Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist, hours before Donald Trump-Modi meeting at the White House.
US state department said that the announcement ahead of Trump-Modi meeting was a co-incident. The State Department on Monday designated Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin as a global terrorist just hours before Trump received Modi at the White House.
Trump also drafted First Lady Melania Trump to join him in welcoming the Indian Prime Minister. The First Lady is also slated to join them for dinner and take part in the departure ceremony, making it three appearances with the visiting dignitary – a clearly personal gesture from Trump towards a leader who is single and unaccompanied.
It is pertinent to mention here that Syed Salahuddin is the Chief of Hizbul Mujahideen and his party is playing major role in the Kashmir liberation movement.
Kashmiri people launched the liberation movement as India had refused to accept UN resolution to hold referendum in the occupied valley. On Jan 5, 1949, the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan’s resolution stated that the question of the accession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan would be decided through a free and impartial plebiscite. But Indian government opposed the referendum and trying to suppress their movement of self determination by atrocities.
