Veteran Politician Jam Saqi Passes Away

Karachi(March 05, 2018): A veteran left-wing politician Jam Saqi, 73, passed away in Hyderabad on Monday after suffering from kidney failure.

According to details, the family of the deceased confirmed the death and told that Saqi died of kidney failure. He was also suffering from multiple ailments, they added, informing that Saqi will be laid to rest in Hyderabad.

Born on 31st October 1944 in a village called Janjhi in the Chacharo District of Sindh, Saqi also served as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Pakistan.

He was highly respected among the politicians not only in Sindh but all over Pakistan. He fought against the dictatorships and human rights abuses all his life and faced the consequences.

Saqi was arrested and tried in a military court during General Zia’s regime in the 80s and PPP Leader Benazir Bhutto and other political leaders appeared as his defence witness to declare him as loyal citizen of the state.He remained behind bar till 1988. Saqi joined the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) in the 90s.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other top political leaders had condoled over the death of the Jam Saqi.

In his statement, Bilawal Bhutto paid tribute to the courageous struggle of Jam Saqi against the dictatorship. He said that Saqi was a people’s friendly politician and his entire party stands alongside the bereaved family.

Asif Ali Zardari also condoled over the death of Saqi and paid tribute to his political struggle.

Chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah also expressed grief over his demise and said that Saqi had raised his voice against the dictators and he is the symbol of political struggle for the masses.
