Lahore (August 30, 2017): Wajid Zia, Head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which investigated money-laundering allegations against the Sharif family in the Panama Papers case, appeared a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore team today to record his statement.
Zia is recording his statement as a witness in the references being prepared by the NAB team against former Prime Minister and his family members.
It is to be mentioned here that he had already appeared before a NAB Rawalpinid team yesterday and recorded his statement.
NAB Lahore had also issued him notice to appear before a team which is working on preparation of reference against Sharif family.
On Tuesday, sources said, Zia handed over some documents pertaining to the alleged corruption of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other members of his family to the NAB Rawalpindi team during his appearance before it.
Sources said that after the Sharif family’s refusal to record statements before NAB, it was decided that all statements made before the JIT would be used by the bureau in the four references that were to be filed in accountability courts, in line with the Supreme Court orders.
During his meeting with NAB investigators, Mr Zia provided verified statements of Nawaz Sharif, his children Maryam, Hussain and Hassan, as well as Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
Earlier, Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Supreme Court, who is overseeing the NAB proceedings against the Sharif family, had allowed investigators to record statements of JIT members who had investigated the Panama Papers case.
It is expected that other JIT members will also record their statements before NAB in the coming days.
