WC 19: New Zealand Restrict Sri Lanka At 136

CARDIFF: Like Pakistan, Sri Lankan batting has also collapsed before the Kiwis pacers and all team bowled out only on 136 in just 29.2 overs in a group stage match at Cardiff on Saturday.

New Zealand Require 137 runs in 50 overs.

Sri Lankan batting from openers to middle order failed to face New Zealander pacers and only three batsman crossed the double figures while FDM Karunaratne has bat carry and stood before Kiwis bowling like a wall and made unbeaten 52 on 84 balls with four fours.

Henry and Ferguson ripped through the Lankan batting and each grabbed three wickets while other all four bowlers get a wicket each.

Earlier, New Zealand have won the toss and elected to field first against  Sri Lanka in the third match of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Since the last World Cup, New Zealand have risen as high as second in the world rankings but have also been beaten at home by South Africa, England and India.

New Zealand beat fancied India in their opening World Cup warm-up game before going down to the West Indies.

Newly appointed Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who has returned to the ODI fold after four years away, has been handed the responsibility of lifting a team that have lost eight of their past nine ODIs.

But Sri Lanka have an impressive World Cup record, with one title, two runners-up finishes and one semi-final appearance.
