We Are Fighting Each Other Instead Of Coronavirus: Shafqat

ISLAMABAD; Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has dismissed claims that the centre has not helped provinces, by saying that the 18th Amendment has granted autonomy to provinces.

While speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, he said that the 18th Amendment is a law, adding that there is always room for improvement.

“This attitude is not right,” he said.

Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has expressed regret that instead of joining forces to look for a way to defeat the novel coronavirus, lawmakers have criticised the government’s approach.

He said that the opposition lawmakers should “thank God” that Pakistan’s condition is not as bad as European countries, where thousands have died.

He further said that while the government has shut down marriage halls, transport, schools etc., a blanket lockdown will have a devastating effect on lower-income people.

“They [the opposition] say there is confusion. Is taking care of poor people confusion?” he asked.

The Minister said that the 18th amendment is part of the constitution and can we even not discuss it adding that the ordinance forwarded by the Sindh didn’t include electricity and gas but it was included.

He said that on one side the opposition is making hue and cry over the 18th amendment on the other hand it acted against it.

Shafqat Mahmood Said that those who called the session are not present in the session and speeches given by the opposition didn’t contain any suggestions but it targeted the government instead of targeting the coronavirus.

He said that we saw fighting each other instead of fighting the coronavirus.
