Will Conduct Forensic Audit of Petroleum Prices: Chief Justice

Islamabad (May 09, 2018): A three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice, heard the suo motu notice case against the imposition of undue taxes on petroleum products.

During the hearing of the case, CJP remarked that “25 percent tax is imposed on the petroleum products, we will conduct the forensic audit of the prices.”

“What sort of tax is applicable on the petroleum products? What is their price in international market and in Pakistan?” inquired Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

The additional attorney general told that the prices are lesser in Pakistan than the region. “Don’t compare the prices with India. Do we have any competition with India in IT sector?” said the CJP.Yesterday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took the notice of continuous increase in the price of petroleum products particularly raise in taxes.

It may be recalled that On May 01, the petroleum prices of various petroleum products for May 2018 were reshuffled and the prices of petrol and diesel were increased.
