World Post Day falls on 9th October, 2014 reminds each and every individual of the date when Universal Postal Union was established. UPU was more recognizable in the year 1874 in Bern, Switzerland and soon changed the face of communication and ended an era. This day marks the importance of postal services all around the globe.
At one point in time, there were more than 5,00, 000 post offices across the world, but with the advent of e-mail, the service has almost vanished. Postal services are totally a public domain and cater services to every customer. Postal services brought down the communication gap and also brought the countries closer.
World Post Day creates awareness and signifies the importance of their services for the public. Postal services and people related to the same, contributed in every aspect of the vital service. There are many people who don’t even know about this day – let’s go back into the past and recollect all those memories where a postman used to come and hand us a lot of joy or sorrows to the people. The feeling during that moment was just speechless.
But, the technology changed to a great extent and soon we forgot those memories and the ‘khaki’ uniform clad postman coming on a cycle. But, that trend won’t come back as the newer generations have already adapted to the ever developing technology and have lost the charm of postal services.
Let’s once again live the precious moments by writing a letter and posting it wrapped with lots of love. Happy Post Day to every person related with postal services, express our gratitude and salute them to show our respect.
