Younis scores 33rd 100 against West Indies in 2nd test

ABU DHABI: Pakistan senior batsmen Younis Khan scored a brilliant 100 in Abu Dhabi test against West Indies to put Pakistan on the driving seat in the second test.

Younis and Asad Shafiq led Pakistan’s recovery after the early departure of the openers on the opening day of the second Test against West Indies in Abu Dhabi. Younis completed his 100 in 169 balls.

Half-centuries from Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan lifted Pakistan to a solid 260 for 3 after they lost both openers early on day one of the second Test against West Indies. From an uneasy 42 for 2 in good batting conditions, Pakistan roused themselves with positive intent from their third- and fourth-wicket pairs, as Younis put on 87 with Shafiq and an unbroken 135 with captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Misbahul Haq is unbeatne at 65 runs.

The normal red ball and daylight cricket returned in Abu Dhabi after the first Test was a day-night affair with the pink ball in Dubai, as Pakistan were off to an unimpressive start.

Azhar Ali, who scored a career best 302 not out in Dubai, played on to Gabriel in the fifth over and was bowled without scoring. Sami Aslam also did not last long as he missed an ambitious drive off leg-spinner Devendar Bishoo and was bowled for six.  Shafiq was at his best from the start, playing with confidence as he has so far hit six boundaries in his 90-ball stay.
