Islamabad (October 09, 2018): Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday has said that Pakistan will continue to play its role for the political solution of the Afghan conflict.
He was talking to the US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad who called on him in Islamabad today.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan welcomes the US efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
Both the leaders agreed to continue cooperation on Afghan reconciliation process.
The US envoy was received by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua at the Foreign Ministry for delegation level talks.
The delegations from both sides comprised of security, defence and diplomatic officials.

Earlier on September 27, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s support for political initiatives to achieve peace in Afghanistan.At a meeting with the United States Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad in New York, the foreign minister emphasized that Pakistan regards peace and stability in Afghanistan vital for its own long-term stability and progress.

He said Pakistan always held that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict. Pakistan, therefore, welcomes the United States renewed emphasis on effecting a political settlement in Afghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said after assuming office, he undertook his first official visit to Kabul which is a reflection of the importance his government attaches to Afghanistan.Ambassador Khalilzad thanked Foreign Minister for his support and said he looks forward to working with Pakistan for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
