Lahore (May 04, 2018): Former president Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has destroyed democracy.
Addressing a gathering in Lahore, the Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman lamented that a weak democracy is being carried forward.
Asif Zardari said that democracy is vulnerable in these times.
“Nawaz Sharif has harmed democracy. We served jail terms. Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had embraced martyrdom for the cause of democracy. But Nawaz Sharif destroyed our struggle and sacrifices by acting like Prince Salim,” Zardari told media persons in Lahore.
While responding to a query related to the notion of ‘aliens’ meddling in political affairs, the PPP co-chairman said Nawaz would know better about the ‘outside beings’ as he had been in cahoots with them.Zardari said that his party has no qualms being a part of the opposition as well, adding that his party has been in rule earlier too.
“They haven’t seen the Prime Minister House, we have… They are in a hurry,” said Zardari making an indirect jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Zardari said that in his opinion the general elections will be held on time. “I know it is hot and Ramzan is approaching, but we had similar conditions earlier too and elections were held on schedule,” he said.
To a question about the electoral alliance with Imran Khan during the Senate’s elections, the PPP president said that necessity was the mother of invention. “We made an adjustment when it was needed. And if any such need arises again, we may form an alliance,” he maintained.“We are ready to sit on opposition benches or join the government. We had formed governments and know how to handle them. We are not fond of visiting the Prime Minister or President Houses. Those who haven’t been there appear to be in hurry.”
Responding to another question, Zardari said that Nawaz Sharif should be asked about aliens as he was the one who had been using them.
“Nawaz Sharif was with Hamid Gul during ‘changa manga’ episode He was also one of the central characters of Asghar Khan case. All the alien species had been supportive of him.”
The former president said that elections would be held as per schedule.
On Thursday, Nawaz Sharif had also claimed that he is not contesting against the PPP or PTI but ‘outside beings’.
