England beat South Africa by 72 runs in first ODI

Leeds (May 25, 2017): England won the first One-day International (ODI) match against South Africa by 72 runs at Headingley, Leeds on Wednesday.    

Earlier, England has set a target of 340 runs for South Africa, while English Captain Oven Morgan scored splendid century.

South Africa won toss and opted to field first against England in the first match of three-day ODI Series. English Team scored 339 runs with a loss of six wickets in set 50 overs.

England captain Oven Morgan scored 107 runs, Moin Ali scored 77, while Alex Hales scored 61 runs. South African bowler Chris Morris and Phehlukwayo took two wickets each, while Parnell and Rabada took one wicket each.

South African squad failed to chase the target and the whole team went to pavilion on 267 runs. Opener Hashim Amla was the top scorer of his team with 73 runs. Whereas Faf du Plessis made 67 runs. Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis made 112 runs in partnership. Captain AB de Villiers went to pavilion on 45 runs.

On the other hand, England’s right-arm fast-medium bowler Christopher Roger Woakes took four wickets. AU Rashid and MM Ali took two wickets each in the match.
