WEB DESK: The President of the European Commission has announced a 90-day suspension in the implementation of retaliatory tariffs on the United States.
The Commission President stated that the EU has taken note of U.S. President Trump’s decision to delay the enforcement of tariffs, and emphasized the desire to give dialogue another chance.
She added that while the EU’s retaliatory measures had the full backing of member states, the decision has been made to postpone their implementation for 90 days.
It is worth noting that the European Union had approved a 25% retaliatory tariff on U.S. goods just a day earlier.
These tariffs were a response to the duties imposed by the U.S. last month on European steel and aluminum.
The American products targeted by the EU tariffs included chicken, rice, corn, fruits and nuts, timber, motorcycles, plastic goods, textiles, paintings, and electronic devices.
According to international news agencies, most of these products are manufactured in U.S. states with a Republican majority.
