BRUSSELS: The European Union has announced a commitment of Rs350 million in humanitarian aid to assist communities in Pakistan devastated by recent floods.
The aid will be channeled through reputable NGOs to address urgent needs such as emergency medical supplies, potable water, and drainage system repairs. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be distributed as cash assistance to help flood-affected families purchase essential goods.
This assistance comes in response to the extensive destruction caused by the ongoing monsoon rains and flooding across the country. According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the floods have resulted in the loss of 881 lives and injuries to 1,176 people nationwide. The most severely impacted regions include Punjab with 223 fatalities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 48, Sindh with 58, and Balochistan with 26.
