BRUSSELS: The European Union plans to enhance its satellite infrastructure by launching more satellites into low Earth orbit to bolster defenses against GPS disruptions, according to EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius. He also emphasized the need to improve detection systems to identify interference more effectively.
This announcement comes after an incident on Sunday where GPS signals aboard European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s aircraft were deliberately disrupted during a flight to Bulgaria. Bulgarian officials believe that the jamming was caused by Russian interference, an EU spokesperson confirmed.
