LAHORE: The European Union has unveiled a new aid package worth three million euros to support flood-affected regions in Punjab, focusing on direct financial assistance to families and bolstering ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation initiatives.
This funding comes as Pakistan grapples with recovery from one of its most severe monsoon seasons in recent memory.
According to the EU, the allocated resources will assist flood-stricken families in rebuilding their homes and livelihoods, disrupted by weeks of relentless rainfall.
Additionally, the aid is directed toward expediting reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, particularly in Punjab’s hardest-hit districts where widespread damage to housing and infrastructure has occurred.
This contribution builds upon the €1.5 million provided by the EU in September, which was concentrated on delivering health services, clean drinking water, and sanitation to monsoon-affected communities.
The earlier funding specifically addressed emergency medical care, access to safe water, and disease prevention in overcrowded temporary shelters.
The announcement highlights the European Union’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to Pakistan as the nation strives to rebuild homes, restore essential services, and stabilize agricultural production.
Officials have indicated that further assistance may be required as evaluations of the long-term social and economic impact are still underway.
