WEB DESK: ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 kicks off in Pakistan on April 9 with six teams battling in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers for a place in the main tournament later this year in India.
The two successful teams will join Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and hosts India, as Australia aims to defend the title won in 2022.
Pakistan will host the tournament and compete alongside the West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand.
Bangladesh, West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland finished in the bottom four of the 10-team ICC Women’s Championship (2022–2025) and now have to go through the Qualifier. Scotland and Thailand secured their places as the highest-ranked teams outside that competition
Two stadiums in Lahore have been selected for the tournament:
Gaddafi Stadium – A historic venue that recently hosted matches in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, including a semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand.
Lahore City Cricket Association – The LCAA ground has long been the training base for the men’s team but will be hosting international women’s cricket for the first time.
All teams will face each other once in a round-robin format, with two points awarded for a win. The top two teams at the end of the 15 matches will qualify for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The tournament opener on April 9 will see Pakistan take on Ireland at Gaddafi Stadium, while West Indies face Scotland at LCCA. The last match of the tournament will be played on April 19 at Gaddafi Stadium, where Thailand will go up against the West Indies.
