According to police sources, terrorists infiltrated the site and planted explosive materials, leading to extensive damage to the structure. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motives behind the attack and gather further details.
The recent period has seen a surge in violence in Bannu, with at least seven individuals, including police personnel, martyred in separate firing incidents within 24 hours. The police spokesperson confirmed that five citizens and police officers sustained injuries in these violent episodes. Earlier this April, Bannu witnessed a brutal attack on Saddar Police Station, where terrorists wounded Police Station House Officer (SHO) Waseem Sajjad and Constable Hayatullah. The injured officers were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Security forces engaged the terrorists during the attack, resulting in the death of one attacker, while his accomplice managed to escape. Senior police officials, including Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan and District Police Officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi, visited the hospital to support the injured officers and boost morale.
In another significant incident, on April 22, police successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on the Dharey Pul police post. According to the Central Police Office (CPO), a group of 18 to 19 terrorists, some riding motorcycles while others crawled toward the post, launched a coordinated assault. The group, identified as belonging to the extremist faction Fitna al-Khawarij, aimed to target an IT camera as part of their plan. The terrorists opened fire from multiple directions, but prompt and effective response by police personnel forced the attackers to retreat, preventing any major damage or casualties.
The ongoing violence underscores the persistent security challenges faced by Bannu and the broader region. Authorities remain vigilant and are continuing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace.
