WEB DESK: Explosion during prayers at a mosque in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, claimed the lives of at least seven worshippers, according to security sources on Wednesday.
As reported by AFP, the blast caused extensive damage to the mosque and led to panic in the surrounding area. Security forces promptly sealed off the site and initiated an investigation into the incident.
So far, no group has taken responsibility for the attack.
Maiduguri serves as the capital of Borno state, a region that has been at the heart of a prolonged insurgency driven by Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), for over a decade.
The area has suffered repeated assaults targeting civilians, security personnel, and religious sites despite ongoing military efforts in the region.
