Explosives, arms’ recovery from Omni Group office:  BDS, forensic lab reports presented in ATC

KARACHI: The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS)  and Forensic Lab’s reports of the arms and explosives recovered from the office of Omni Group was presented in the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) here on Saturday.

The ATC heard the case regarding recovery of explosives and illicit arms from the office of Omni Group of Companies.  BDS and Forensic Laboratory’s reports of the arms were presented in the court.  The forensic lab report declared the ball bombs recovered from the office as dangerous. It added that the ball bombs were favorite weapons of terrorists who often use these.

It is to be mentioned here that Rangers recovered arms and explosive materials from the office of Omni Group on December 23, 2017. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against the chairman of the group Khwaja Salman Younus and other at Sadder Police Station on complaint of Rangers.

During the hearing on Saturday, Rangers’ counsel Sajid Mahboob demanded of the court to order fresh investigation into the arms recovery case. The court while asking the counsels of Rangers and accused to advance arguments in the next date adjourned hearing of the case.

Personnel of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, had carried out back-to-back raids on two offices of Omni Group on Dec 23 and claimed to have seized 13 submachine guns, four ball bombs, a pistol and over 300 rounds of different types from the offices. A case was registered on a complaint of a Rangers official under Sections 23(1)(a) of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 and Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Saddar police station.

The paramilitary force had nominated the owner and an official of the group as suspects in the FIR.
