Facebook glitch declares millions of users including Zuckerberg dead

Facebook has apologized for a terrible error, according to which it declared two million of its users dead including its founder, Mark Zuckerberg.

A technical glitch led to profiles displaying a memorial message hoping loved ones would ‘find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate’ their lives.

Hundreds of affected users started to take Twitter to confirm whether they are in good health.

The error saw Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg’s profile displaying the message for a short time.

“This was a terrible error that we have now fixed,” said a Facebook spokesperson. “We are very sorry that this happened.”

The social networking site introduced a “memorializing” option last year to allow a loved one to take control of user’s profile after they die.

The designated trustee is allowed to post an announcement on the person’s timeline, change profile and cover photos and respond to new friend requests.
