His real name was Faiz Ahmed. He was born on February 13, 1911 in Sialkot. He did MA in English and Arabic. He joined the army and resigned after reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was the greatest poet of Urdu after Ghalib and Iqbal. A certain kind of romantic coating imbued his poetry with musicality
Faiz was awarded the Nishan Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan, the Lenin Prize by the Soviet Union and the Peace Prize by the Human Rights Society. Naqsh Frayadi, Dast Saba, Zindan Nama, Sarwadi Sina, Faiz Ahmed Faiz was a collections of words. Books like Meezan, Kulabumin Murre Driche Mein, Mutaa Loh Wa Qalam, Hamari National Culture and Meh Wa Sal Ashanai are memorable. Faiz Ahmad Faiz passed away on 20 November 1984 and was buried in Gulbarg Cemetery in Lahore
