Fake Accounts Case Referred To NAB Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: High-profile fake accounts case has been handed to the National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi chapter while NAB DG Irfan Naeem Mangi will head the investigation who was also part of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed against incarcerated premier Nawaz Sharif.

Sources said a reference will be filed in Islamabad’s accountability court after completion of thorough probe against former president Asif Ali Zarari, sister Faryal Talpur, Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and various others.

Sources privy to NAB told AbbTakk News that the task was handed over to NAB Rawalpind over orders of chairman Justice (retd.) Javed Iqbal. Irfan Naeem Mangi will initiated a thorough investigation of the scandal while around 16 references will be filed in accountability courts of twin-cities. However, Mangi was given full authority to take decision in this regards, sources added.

Earlier, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the fake accounts case in its report accused 172 people of having fake bank accounts for money laundering. PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz were the prominent names among the accused persons.

According to the Supreme Court’s order, NAB was asked to conclude its investigation within two months. Those found guilty of corruption will have two options: either to face a reference or ask for a plea bargain.
