Parveen Shakir’s 64th birthday today

Fans of famed Urdu poetess Parveen Shakir are celebrating her sixty-forth birthday today. Parveen Shakir died in a tragic traffic accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994.

Born in Karachi on November 24, 1952 Parveen Shakir’s first collection of poetry “Khushbu” was published in 1977. It was received warmly. She followed with more such book including collection of her poetry “Sadburg”, “Khudkalami”, and “Inkar”. The poetic collection “Mah Tamam” was published in her life while “Kaf-e-Aina” was published after her death.

Parveen Shakir was bestowed with many honors for her poetic work including Adamjee Prize, Hijra Award by Academy of Letters, and Presidential Aard for Performance by the government of Pakistan.

Parveen Shakir rests in eternal peace at central graveyard Islamabad.
