ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman has denied having any role in the possible arrest of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, describing suggestions to that effect as baseless and irresponsible.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, Fazal was asked about reports connecting him to the matter. He urged people, particularly senior journalists, to avoid making unsubstantiated claims and focus instead on their responsibilities.
Fazal said a meeting with opposition representatives was due to take place soon, adding that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had honoured a commitment it had made. He said JUI-F would decide its next steps after a meeting of the party’s Central Majlis-e-Shura.
Asked about the government’s repeated failure to meet expectations, he said the question should be put to the government.
Separately, Senator Faisal Vawda claimed PTI had fractured and its political momentum was over. Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, he urged the party’s leaders to either establish a new political platform or join another party.
Vawda criticised PTI’s provincial government in KP and referred to recent developments involving the province, including discussion of Governor’s Rule and an emergency. He said he did not consider all PTI members responsible for the party’s situation, adding that some were patriotic and could still serve the country.
He also alleged that arrests of PTI leaders were part of a coordinated arrangement following the emergency.
