ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Monday that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025 tax year will not be extended beyond September 30 (Tuesday).
In a statement, the board addressed unverified reports circulating on various media platforms that claimed the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025 tax year would be postponed. The FBR noted, “Some individuals have attempted to associate this perceived extension with the recent floods.”
The board also dismissed claims that its Integrated Risk Information System (Iris) had slowed down as “unfounded.” It added that the system is “fully operational and functioning smoothly,” allowing taxpayers to easily file their returns using the new simplified income tax return form.
Furthermore, taxpayers were warned that failing to file returns by the due date would result in late-filer status and the imposition of penalties under the law. The FBR urged all eligible taxpayers to act responsibly and file their income tax returns accurately and honestly before the September 30, 2025 deadline to avoid legal consequences.
“In cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may request an extension of up to fifteen days, provided that the due taxes are paid by September 30, subject to approval by the relevant committee as per the law,” the statement added.
