Islamabad: Federal Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (today) decided to close all the markets across the country at 8:30 pm while wedding halls around the country to be shut down at 10 pm under the approved National Energy Saving Program.
Federal Ministers holding a presser after the cabinet meeting, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif said that other resources will be used to overcome the energy crisis adding that additional duty will be applicable to the non-imperative electricity equipment’s.
He said that this decision will save up to Rs 62 billion.
Federal Minister for Power and Energy Khurram Dastagir, Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzaib, Federal Minister Housing and works Maulana Abdul Wasay were also present at the presser.
National Energy Saving Plan
Khawaja Asif apprised that today’s session of the federal cabinet was held under the sunshine and there was no light was open while he said that the National Energy Saving Program will be applicable immediately.
Plan To Be Implemented and Monitored
The Defence Minister said that through a management structure energy saving plan will be implemented while the federal cabinet will monitor implementation of energy saving plan.
He informed that the PM has instructed all the federal institutions to reduce electricity consumption by 30 percent adding that today cabinet has approved some things and it will be informed.
The Minister said that across the globe markets are closed early while in Pakistan it remains open till midnight.
He apprised that only fans alone use 12000 MW electricity while he said that non-imperative fans will not be manufactured in factories.

Govt To Introduce Electric Bikes
Motorcycles use petrol of whopping amount of 3 billion dollars annually adding that we are going to introduce electric bikes in the country.
Measures will also be taken regarding saving of water while he claimed that representatives of traders association accommodate the suggestions of change of time for markets.
He further said that the government and the trade association has agreed on change of timings for markets during the talks.
President Extends Support To Plan
Khawaja Asif apprised that President Dr Arif Alvi supported the Electricity Saving Plan and gave imperative suggestions for it. While the President was asked to talk to Punjab and KP provincial governments on the matter.
For the purpose talks at administration level were held with governments of Punjab and KP, the Minister informed.
Work From Home
Talking at the ocassion, Minister for Climate Change, Sherry Rehman said that electricity saving plan will have pleasent effects on our enviroment.
The climate minister said that we have to adopt a policy work from home.
As pollution decreased during the work from home policy in coronavirus days. We use too much petrol, water and electricity.
Net Metering Tariff For Solar Energy In Place
Minister for power and electricity Khurram Dastagir said that the net metering tarrif is in place regarding solar energy. While Khawaja Asif said to the energy minister to make net metering system easy.
Khawaja Asif said that the people feel disturbed for a net metering licensee and they forced to take influence of someone for getting the license.
Our habits and way of life is totally different from entire the world and we have to bring change in our way of life so we could save precious energy, he added.
