Federal Cabinet declares friday ‘Thanksgiving Day’ to mark ceasefire success

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has designated Friday as “Thanksgiving Day” (Youm-e-Tashakur) to celebrate recent diplomatic progress that led to a ceasefire in the region.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting in Islamabad, where members also reviewed key political and economic matters. The government has urged citizens nationwide to offer special prayers for the success of upcoming talks between Iran and the United States, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on April 10.

According to sources, cabinet members commended efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly acknowledging the role of Syed Asim Munir in facilitating the peace process. The meeting reportedly saw ministers applauding the development, while the prime minister also paid tribute to Munir’s contribution.

Participants congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on the diplomatic breakthrough, describing the atmosphere as upbeat and celebratory, with sweets distributed among attendees.

The government’s call for nationwide observance underscores the importance it attaches to the upcoming negotiations and its hopes for a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
