Federal cabinet meeting on 27th Amendment postponed

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet meeting, originally planned for today under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss and approve the 27th Constitutional Amendment, has been postponed.

Sources indicate that the delay occurred due to the prime minister’s demanding schedule. The cabinet was expected to grant formal approval for the proposed amendment during this session.

It has been reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already secured the confidence of coalition partners regarding the amendment. In discussions with an MQM-Pakistan delegation, he is said to have assured them that the local government bill would be included in the 27th Amendment, prompting MQM-P to extend its support.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has opposed all provisions of the 27th Amendment, except for the suggested modification to Article 243.
