LAHORE: The condition of the university student who reportedly attempted suicide has improved, according to officials and medical experts at Lahore General Hospital.
A specialized medical board, comprising psychiatrists and psychologists, has been closely monitoring the young woman’s physical and mental well-being.
The board has held in-depth discussions with the student, identified as Fatima, and her family. A video showcasing the counselling process has also been shared to highlight ongoing efforts for her recovery.
Professor Jodat Saleem, the hospital’s principal, stated that the student has made significant progress and is no longer in a critical state. Her recovery has been steady and promising, a testament to the relentless dedication and expertise of the hospital’s medical team, working round-the-clock.
He further assured that the hospital will continue to deliver top-notch medical care while giving equal attention to her psychological recovery alongside physical treatment.
Dr. Faiza Athar, Head of Psychiatry, and psychologist Aliya Sadaf, both members of the dedicated medical board, are leading counselling sessions with Fatima and her family to address the emotional and mental aspects critical to her rehabilitation.
Professor Saleem emphasized that her condition remains under meticulous review and that consistent support will be ensured throughout her recovery journey.
Meanwhile, Hina Parvez Butt, chairperson of Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA), visited the hospital to meet both the student and her family. She reported that Fatima, who had previously been on a ventilator, is now conscious and has shown marked improvement.
Restoring Fatima’s health and well-being is the utmost priority, Butt affirmed. She praised the hospital for maintaining stringent monitoring throughout every phase of treatment and highlighted plans for ongoing medical care, psychological support, and rehabilitation services.
In addition, Butt confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway. This includes examining factors such as family pressures related to marriage and education. Forensic analysis of her call records and other mobile data prior to the incident is also being conducted.
She concluded by assuring that all details regarding the case, both past and present, will be disclosed in adherence to legal protocols.
