FIA arrests main accused in Azam Tariq murder case

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), on Thursday arrested main accused in former Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan Maulana Azam Tariq‘s murder case from Islamabad airport.

The accused Syed Muhammad Sibtain Kazmi, who  was declared a proclaimed offender in the case, was arrested after 14 years. Kazmi was also carrying a head money of Rs1 million.

Sources said that the accused was identified and arrested by FIA immigration officials from the airport when he was trying to flee to the United Kingdom via Doha through a Qatar Airline’s flight.

Tariq, the then MNA, was gunned down along with three of his guards and a driver in the limits of Islamabad’s Golra police in 2003, while returning from his constituency, Jhang, to attend a National Assembly session.

FIA handed over the accused to Golra police as the FIR of the murder was registered in the police stations.
