FIA officer suspended following allegations of assault during Karachi raid

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken disciplinary action against one of its officers after reports emerged of misconduct and violence against traders during a raid in Saddar Sarafa Bazaar.

In response to the incident highlighted on social media, FIA Director General Dr. Usman Anwar ordered a thorough investigation and requested a detailed report from the concerned authorities within 48 hours. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency and impartiality, vowing strict measures against any illegal conduct.

The FIA Karachi Zone’s leadership acted swiftly by suspending the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Anti-Corruption Circle involved in the operation. This move aims to facilitate an unbiased review of the events and uphold the integrity of the investigation.

The incident occurred during a raid targeting a jewelry shop, which authorities say was related to an inquiry into alleged silver smuggling. Footage circulating online shows FIA personnel reportedly using force and mistreating shop staff during the questioning process.

The FIA reaffirmed its stance that no individual is above the law and pledged to continue its crackdown on illegal activities, ensuring accountability at all levels.
