Finance Minister Ishaq Dar To Be Indicted Today

Islamabad (September 27, 2017): Islamabad’s Accountability Court will formally indict Finance Minister Ishaq Dar today in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference over disproportionate increase in assets.

In the last hearing, the counsel of finance minister Amjad Pervez requested the court for extension of 7-day time to frame charges, however court turned down his request and set the September 27 for framing the charges.

On September 25, Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Bashir heard the NAB reference against the Finance Minister.

During the course of hearing, NAB prosecutor told the court that they raided Dar’s residences in Islamabad and Lahore. But he appeared before the court today, the prosecutor added.

He pleaded the court to issue non-bailable warrant for arrest of Dar. However, the judge rejected the prosecutor appeal to issue arrest warrant of Dar.

The judge directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to provide Dar with a copy of the case documents.

The corruption reference was filed by the NAB in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

Dar returned to the country last night from London along with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
