Islamabad: The finance ministry on Tuesday (today) released a whopping Rs 17.400 billion to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding of the general elections across the country.
As per the finance ministry, with the latest release, Rs 27.40 billion have been issued to the ECP so far as Rs 10 billion was released in July for preparations of the general elections.
The federal cabinet has approved Rs 42 billion for ECP for holding of the general elections in the country.
The remaining budgeted amount will be released as per the need of the ECP.
The ECP had called secretary finance yesterday as the finance ministry didn’t provide as per required amount of Rs 17 billion to the election body.
The ECP called the secretary finance over not issuing due amount of the ECP.
The finance ministry has kept a budget of Rs 42 billion for the ECP for the preparations of upcoming general elections on February 8 next year.
Sources said that the finance ministry has issued Rs 10 billion so far.
There is no crisis on meeting the financial needs of the ECP.

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi says there is no crisis in meeting the financial needs of Election Commission.
In a tweet on social media platform X, he said cabinet has approved 42 billion rupees for the budgetary needs of the ECP and notably, 10 billion rupees have already been disbursed.
The Minister said whatever budgeted amount is needed by the ECP, it will be released as per its needs accordingly.
Murtaza Solangi reaffirmed that the government stands firmly behind the ECP in holding free and fair elections as mandated by Article 218-(3) of the Constitution.
