Fire erupts at factory in Karachi Export Processing Zone

KARACHI: A massive fire broke out at a garment factory in the city’s Export Processing Zone on Thursday, triggering an emergency response from Rescue 1122. Eleven fire tenders are currently engaged in efforts to bring the blaze under control, with the flames also spreading to a neighboring building, according to rescue officials.

The escalating intensity of the fire earlier raised concerns that two nearby factories could also be affected. Adding to the risk, a chemical storage warehouse is located adjacent to the impacted unit, while another nearby facility stores second-hand goods, further heightening fears of the fire spreading.

Rescue 1122 stated that its Central Command and Control center promptly dispatched a firefighting team, an ambulance, and a fire engine upon receiving the alert. Thick plumes of smoke were visible rising from the site as teams worked to contain the flames and minimize further damage.

Officials confirmed that the firefighting operation remains underway and promised to provide updates once the situation is fully controlled. Fortunately, all workers from the affected factory were evacuated safely.
