QUETTA: Qila Abdullah and Gulistan emerge as the hardest-hit districts as relentless monsoon rains cause severe flooding across parts of Balochistan
On Wednesday, heavy downpours led to significant flooding in various regions of Balochistan, with Qila Abdullah and Gulistan bearing the brunt of the natural disaster. Emergency services are actively responding to the crisis amid ongoing heavy rainfall.
District officials reported that in the Habibzai area of Gulistan tehsil, a van with 15 individuals on board was overwhelmed by fast-moving floodwaters. In addition, a food supply truck was also swept away by the powerful currents in the same vicinity. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected zones, focusing on locating and rescuing any passengers believed to be stranded in the floodwaters.
Meanwhile, the river flowing through Qila Abdullah has risen to a dangerously high level, leading authorities to halt traffic on the crucial Quetta-Chaman route. Several vital roads, including those connecting Toba Achakzai, Khanozai, and Gulistan, have been shut down for all vehicular movement due to the flooding.
Reports indicate that many passenger vehicles are stuck in rain-fed streams across Pishin and Toba Achakzai, prompting the local administration to issue a high-level alert. The ongoing heavy rains have left tractors and other vehicles trapped in floodwaters at multiple locations, further complicating the situation.
Officials have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel and steer clear of flooded zones to ensure safety. The situation remains precarious as the region continues to face intense rainfall, with rescue and relief efforts ongoing.
