Pakistan have for the first time gotten success in the FIFA World Cup qualifying round at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad today.
Pakistan have entered second stage after defeating Cambodia by 1-0 while the only goal of the match scored by Haroon Hamid in the 69th minute of the second half.
In the next round Pakistan will face Saudi Arabia.
Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has congratulated the team adding that the football is the game of people.
He said that we have all efforts to keep politics away from the games.
Noting that the stadium where match was played has been renovated with China’s support, Murtaza Solangi said this is yet another victory as it coincides with the Prime Minister’s presence in Beijing.
He hoped that the positive spirit and pleasant ambience of the game permeate our political culture. He said administrative problems related to the game will be solved at the earliest.
The Minister applauded young player Haroon Hamid for scoring the decisive goal of the match.
In his remarks on the occasion, Caretaker Minister for Sports Balochistan Jamal Raisani said this is our first victory in the qualifiers for FIFA 2026.
