ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson for the Foreign Office has stated that if India stops the water, a strong response will be given, and any Indian action to halt the water supply will be considered an act of war.
In a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan mentioned that India’s violation of the Indus Waters Treaty is an irresponsible action. He indicated that India has unilaterally suspended the treaty, and its actions have confirmed the two-nation theory.
He stated that, the National Security Committee held a meeting yesterday during which important decisions were made. In this meeting, Pakistan issued responses to India, indicating that India’s behavior poses a threat to regional peace and stability.
He emphasized that, if India stops the water flow, a robust response will be provided, and any such action will be regarded as a warlike act. He assured that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully prepared for national security and defense.
The Foreign Office spokesperson also noted that, all types of traffic at the Wagah border have been suspended, and Pakistani airspace is closed to Indian flights. All Indian visas under the SAARC scheme have been suspended, except for Sikh pilgrims.
Shafqat Ali Khan added that, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had fruitful discussions with Turkish leadership during his recent visit to Turkey. The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates also visited Pakistan, and the parties agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and increase cooperation in various sectors.
He mentioned that, the Foreign Minister of Rwanda also made an important visit to Pakistan, where various MOUs for cooperation between Pakistan and Rwanda were signed.
